In June this year we purchased the land to the rear of Villa Bahri and are currently developing this as an orchard and garden. It already consists of a huge lemon tree and a 15 metre high date palm. We aim to plant a diverse selection of native fruit trees and plants and to create a herb garden which includes varieties grown in the Pharaonic times. At the moment lots of valuable agricultural land is being used for new buildings and it is inevitable that some of the local flora may be lost forever. We have installed gentle lighting around the walls and have shady seating areas, so this will be a delightful place to sit and relax. We will also grow a selection of organic vegetables for use by our guests.
Left - one of the shady seeing areas and Right - the view from the roof with the ripe dates ready for picking. Trees and plants grow so quickly here that it will be transformed in next to no time into a leafy oasis. The area around the swing seat will soon be a lush green lawn. The hedging is Karkadeh which in the next few weeks be a mass of pink flowers - perfect for home made karkadeh tea
Our lemon tree. The lemons here are small and green and full of natural flavour.
We will be posting more photos soon so please come back for a look
