There is more to do and see in and around Luxor than you can hope to do in just one holiday. But we can help to to plan your sightseeing so you get to see what you want - at your leisure - no rushing to get back on the coach. We have our own airconditioned car and can take you to less busy 'off the beaten track' places that so many tourists miss. Here are just some of the wonderful places we can show you.
KINGS VALLEY, the final resting place of the great Pharaohs, is top of most peoples' list - the enduring image of Tutankhamun and the golden mask is one of the most famous pictures in the world. Tutankhamun is the only Pharaoh whose mummy still rests in his tomb. There is an excellent airconditioned visitors centre on site. Driving there you will pass the house of Howard Carter which is now open to the public and highly reccommended.Queens Valley, Tombs of the Nobles and the Workers Village are also well worth visiting .
COLOSSUS OF MEMNON. These giant statues are virtually all that remains of the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III. Any trip to the Theban hills will include a stop here for photographs. The site behind the statues is currently being excavated and there have been many new finds but this is 'off limits' to tourists at the moment although its possible to walk past the site whilst having a look.
THE RAMESSEUM is mortuary temple of the famous Ramses the Great. It is one of the quieter sites as the large coach groups tend to pass by here, which is a shame because it is such an atmospheric place to visit. Maybe you remember the poem ''Ozymandias'' by Shelley from school days, which was inspired by the fallen head of Ramses and the immortal lines '' Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair" The cafe is owned by an interesting local character whose grandfather worked for Howard Carter.
MEDINET HABU AND MUCH MORE...There are too many other tombs and temples to list here but one other that should be on your wish list is Medinet Habu. This huge temple still has a lot of the original colours on the columns and ceilings and wonderful reliefs of the Pharaoh Ramses III smiting his enemy ( he did a lot of that! ) There is a pretty cafe close by which is perfect for a cold drink or maybe a light lunch.
DEIR EL BAHRI . The Deir el Bahri area includes the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, the only female Pharaoh, and wearer of a false beard. Cut into the towering cliffs it is one of the most famous images of the west bank. Close by are the Assassif tombs which are still being excavated although a couple are open and are really worth visiting.
KARNAK AND LUXOR TEMPLES. Across the river on the East bank you will find the temples of Luxor and Karnak. It is impossible to appreciate the sheer size of Karnak until you visit and descriptions do not do it justice - you have to see it to believe it. Luxor temple is just across the river from the ferry. It is smaller than Karnak but just as impressive. It is lit up every evening and this is probably the best time to visit..
RELAXING ON THE RIVER. As a change from sightseeing we can arrange a relaxing day for you on board a fellucca sailing boat. Sailing gently up stream you will watch the landscape change and see the local wildlife. We provide you with a picnic and cold drinks - even wine or beer. You can visit banana island then watch the sunset over the mountains
CAMELS, HORSES AND DONKEY RIDES. Taking a ride on any of these is a great way to see the surrounding area. We can arrange an early morning donkey ride up the hillside above Hatshepsut temple. Or a late afternoon camel walk by the Nile
